E-Commerce Worksheet
In order to design and configure an online store, you must prepare in
advance. To make that task easier, weve outlined most of the information
required for you. Feel free to use this as a guide when planning your own
online store front.
- Product Information
-
Number of products
-
Product categories (departments)
-
Shipping weights
-
Description including unit sizes
-
Product specific information (e.g., SKU)
-
Product photos
The heart and soul of your catalog. Its a good idea to divide your
products into categories first, and then collect the product-specific
information. Much of that information will be common throughout a category.
- Database Information
-
Product information fields
-
Front-end preference (web/local)
-
Purchasing rules (e.g., 2-for-1 special)
-
Sales tax and shipping calculations
Do you have an existing product database that can be converted? Our online
store works with ODBC database programs for easier management. Or, for
convenience and a lower cost, use the built-in control interface on the
web.
- General Information
-
Layout of product page
-
Payment methods
-
Order reception method
-
Shipping requirements
They may be details, but this is critical information. What credit cards do
you accept? Do you use more than one shipper? How will you receive and process
orders?
Its especially important that you consult your bank and/or credit
card processing company about web orders. Since you will not see the credit
card or signature of the purchaser, you must take additional steps to protect
yourself from liability.
